Drew | The Pit Bull Advocate

      My Pit Bull Puppy

My name is Drew, that’s me in 2008 with my first 2, and this past Christmas in 2011 with my new pup! I’m a Pit Bull lover, owner, volunteer and an avid Pit Bull advocate. I’m 27 and I have experience raising and training Pit Bulls as the proud owner of the 2 mutts in the picture, Dominoe and Dakota. I also have a new pup named Lincoln who I write Lincoln’s Daily Diary for, in order to help you see exactly what I do on a daily basis in order to raise a well-adjusted, well-behaved and loving little PittBull buddy.

The reason I chose the Pit Bull as a pet was because I could relate. I understood what it could be like to be so misunderstood, counted out or just believed to be something you were not. Meanwhile, the whole time if anyone just stopped and paid attention, giving more than just a double-take, they would see that just beneath a rocky surface of doubt was one of America’s most treasured animals; the American Pit Bull Terrier, a stunning symbol of love, hope and ultimate perseverance.

I made this site because I know our Pit Bull pups need all the help they can get, especially with cases like the Ionia, MI Pit Bull ban happening everywhere. I also realized there was a need for some real training advice that works(proof here) and didn’t come with strings attached. And it also comes from someone who is actually willing to work with each and every reader personally, so leave a comment if you need help. As a staunch Pit Bull advocate I believe in galvanizing the Pit Bull community and spreading our knowledge and love across the country. I am also hoping to be able to create a Pit Bull Lobby for the advancement and protection of the rights of the American Pit Bull Terrier.

When I am not manically researching and writing content or working on the site in general, you will find me with Lincoln the Pit Bull 85% of the time. While I do provide a clear and consistent set of boundaries for him, we spend a TON of time goofing and playing around, as well as training. We live by the shore so we love to go playing off-leash on the beach when it is empty.
I volunteer with our local animal shelter, the Monmouth County SPCA watching after their pups, walking them, cleaning up after them or showing would-be adopters the “diggs” where we keep our adoptable dogs. I am hoping to expand my role there because I know I have a lot to offer besides just a burning desire to help the animals.
I also try to work out at least 3 times a week at the local gym, I like being in shape and feeling good! It comes in handy with owning a Pit Bull!
If I am not home with Lincoln, nor at the shelter nor working on the website, well then you can find me in that necessary evil of a place we call work! I am spending some time beginning to research how I might be able to make a living from home so that is a big goal for me in my personal life right now.

Probably much like you, being the owner of Pit Bulls or as I repeatedly call them, the Bully Breed, means you will also have just as much(if not more) experience dealing with mean and uninformed people who carry an unwarranted and negative stereotype of our loving babies. Forget them, they can walk the earth dumb, deaf and blind for eternity and I couldn’t care less. The people that matter, will. The Pit Bull community is a tight-knit group of animal lovers bonded by a love for the world most misunderstood animal who understand there are so many advantages to owning a Pit Bull dog.

You see my experience with the stereotype started before I even got a dog…..

Here’s the story on how I brought Dominoe into the family:

Like Dad used to, most people still wince at the thought of a Pit Bull Terrier or any Bully Breeds, they take a big deep breath and gather their thoughts on whether or not they think you’ll be offended by their opinion. (and whether or not to give it) But I have to say for the hundreds of times my loving Pit-Bulls or Bully Breed dogs ever came up in conversation I could never get used to seeing those unsavory facial expressions. Every time I talk about how Pit-Bulls are good dogs, or how Bully Breeds are misunderstood people look at me like I’m the crazy person…Ironic right? These aren’t just dogs, they are our family and I won’t let you treat my family like ****. I am sure you are with me on that.

Not only do we have to worry about what people think of our dogs, but no thanks to BSL(Breed Specific Legislation), we now have to worry about what these unknowing people plan to do to our dogs.    I know, it makes me upset too.

Look, any honest thinking person in the world knows its the owner who is responsible for their dog’s actions and a lack of properly training Pit Bulls, but this is a crucial point that is being missed by the people who are trying their best to ban this great American breed.

Its easy to explain the confusion about our Pit-Bulls and Bully Breed dogs; There is more bad information being spewed about PittBulls daily than there are enough people to refute the claims. There is also a disconnect of people who confuse PitBull aggression and people aggression. It is possible for a Pit-Bull to be more guarded against strange dogs but it is another thing entirely for a Bully Breed to be aggressive towards people and with training Pit Bulls are even less likely to have DA.(dog aggression) And that is especially true if you join Pit Bull Groups for socialization at an early age which is something I believe is imperative.

Check out this short video. It is perfect and says exactly what needs to be heard!!
