Happy PitBulls Mean Pit Bull Rules

Posted by on February 2, 2012

Pit Bull rules and regulations! It is important to give your Pit Bull rules to follow and have structure in your way of life. Contrary to how it sounds, Pit Bull rules create a dog who knows what is expected of him and what his limits are leading to happy PitBulls thriving in their environment.

Day 7 of Lincoln’s Daily Diary, Sunday December 18, 2011

Lincoln the Pit Bull and I have experience some computer trouble the past couple of days without posting Lincoln’s Daily Diary but we think its all figured out! Thanks for sticking with us!

Today we woke up and went outside right away for the pup to go potty. He did and then I fed and crated Lincoln before going to breakfast. When I got back we went outside again before coming in for some training time. When we see dogs outside I always have Lincoln sit calmly as they pass which is a good way to prevent dog aggression. We are still working on “come” and he is making more progress every day but it is a command that takes a lot of practice and patience. We usually play for a bit after training and Lincoln usually naps shortly after, he is already getting into a routine which for Bully Breeds is good to have;

Giving your Pit Bull rules to follow will really help because your dog will thrive in an environment with structure so I always try my best to provide one. When your dog has a clear idea of what to expect, what you expect of them and what their boundaries are, they will be healthier and happy PitBulls who know they are free to do whatever it is they please so long as it is within the limits you set for them.

Rules make Happy PitBulls

A common problem for many owners is that they do not provide a consistent set of rules.

Lax boundaries mixed sometimes with an overabundance of love and you have successfully created a dog that barks incessantly in public and acts like a brat. All it takes is for you to slack on a “No” command just once before your dog sees territory that is up for grabs. Just giving your dogs tons of love doesn’t necessarily make happy PitBulls, stick to your guns and be firm, most of all be consistent and enjoy the results.

Today is Sunday so my favorite football team was playing on the TV so I watched as the pup slept…He was a little concerned about my excitement at times but soon began to sleep through the cheers. He gave me some weird looks as if to wonder “do you have no shame?” but it is just something he will have to get used to when football season comes around! He gets treats when we score touchdowns to counteract the possible anxiety it might give him so happy PitBulls like Lincoln should be rooting for the home team!

I fed him again when he woke up from his nap and then crated him after his next potty break. I have to go to work tonight for a few hours and my father will be picking him up shortly after I leave to let him out.
When I got home it was late but we did a couple minutes of training before our last potty-break for the night.

Here are just some of my Pit Bull rules that I use to create limits and structure for Lincoln;

  • Try to do things like feed and potty breaks at the same times every day.
  • Be consistent with my “No” commands, don’t over-use it and don’t slack off so Lincoln knows what is off-limits and what is fair game.
  • I cut my belly-rubs and kisses a bit short. I don’t scratch his belly every time he rolls over.
  • Humans are creatures of habit, I keep my routines and mannerisms the same. (but it doesn’t mean mixing things up is a bad idea)
  • Walk the dog on the same side, for me its my left. I use “okay” as a release command.
  • Don’t give up ground I have staked a claim to. If I have set a limit it must be enforced.

These aren’t big ticket issues but the little things do add up and giving your Pit Bull rules to follow are important. Bully Breed dogs will take every inch you give them, and then some. so make sure to be firm. Just because you provide discipline doesn’t mean you are cold, on the contrary it is exactly what leads to a happy Pit Bull. It’s all the little Pit Bull rules like these that add up to a bigger picture. I strive to have a healthy, obedient and well mannered pup.

    You really make it seem so easy along with your presentation however I in finding this topic to be actually one thing which I think I’d by no means understand. It seems too complex and very large for me. I am looking ahead for your subsequent publish, I will attempt to get the cling of it!

    I am happy you found us Loree! Confidence in yourself is important and your dog will feel that your a good leader and thus will follow you! Now if you follow us enough or watch our videos you may see me mention trying to “think like your dog”. It takes a bit of practice and maybe even some studying but it will help you tremendously to connect with your pup and thrive in training. I will do an article on it soon so make sure to check back!

    I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.
