My Bully Breed Pit Bull Puppy

Lincoln the Pit Bull

The start of Lincolns Pit Bull Clicker Training.

Tuesday December 13, 2012

I took Lincoln to work today at the shop because it was too soon to leave him in the crate for very long. Since we just started crate training the puppy it is too soon to leave him inside for more than a couple hours but he has a great time at work and he was very popular with our clients. Lincoln the Pit Bull puppy sat in 10 different laps for nearly 20 minutes at a time, was well-behaved every second and never tested his limits! He did have one accident which was completely my fault, when you are house breaking a puppy you have to get outside often and I just could not get to him soon enough. My fault, not his. I knew bringing him to work wouldn’t be perfect but it still went great. He even sat in one lady’s lap for 5 minutes before I told her it was a Pit Bull not a Chihuaua!!! She was shocked at the friendliness and the size, clearly a Pit Bull myth believer!

After work we came home and relaxed for a bit, boy does he love those car-rides. Before the pup ate dinner I started Lincoln’s Pit Bull clicker training and began loading a clicker which means I clicked the clicker and gave the pup a treat over and over again so he would realize the clicking sound means something good. It helps by clicker training because of timing, it allows you to ‘mark’ a behavior your dog makes as soon as it happens providing a ‘bridge’ for you to give him a treat. This way you don’t miss rewarding good behavior just because you did not have a treat in your hand or even because you weren’t next to the pup!
He already loves the sound the clicker makes now and we worked on some eye-contact. Using the Pit Bull clicker training to teach my dog eye contact I would just wait until he looks at me and then click and treat. After a couple clicks I would begin to wait longer and longer before clicking as he watched my eyes.

After the Pit Bull clicker training Lincoln the Pit Bull and I just hung out and browsed the internet before calling it a day. It was a good one but tomorrow was going to be even better…
